Bregenzer Segel-Club
The Bregenz Sailing Club (BSC) on Lake Constance in Bregenz was founded in 1895 and is the second oldest sailing club on the lake. With around 300 members and about 100 yachts, the club sees itself as a promoter of sailing for all age groups, from six-year-old children to sailors over 90. At Strandweg 47 in Bregenz marina, the club offers a clubhouse, the Soulplace restaurant, club boats in the Optimist, Laser and J/70 classes, and strong youth work with free provision of boats. The BSC is an experienced organiser of major international regattas such as West-Ost, One Design Cup, club regatta and the Sie & Er regatta, and fields teams in the Segelbundesliga.
History
The Bregenz Sailing Club (BSC) was founded in 1895 and is the second oldest sailing club on Lake Constance. Today the club has around 300 members and about 100 yachts and has seen itself as a promoter of sailing since its foundation. In 2020 the BSC celebrated its 125th anniversary with a jubilee meeting and birthday festival. Over the decades the club developed into an experienced organiser of major international regattas, including the SWorld Cup of Aphrodite 101, the X-99 World Championship 2004, the European Cup of 30m² Skerry Cruisers 2006 and 2014, the International Swiss Lacustre Championship 2008 and the Lacustre Deutsche Bank European Cup. Every year the BSC organises events including the West-Ost and Ost-West regatta in cooperation with Konstanzer Yachtclub (200–230 boats), the One Design Cup with ORC Cup (40–50 boats, approx. 240–300 participants), club regattas, the traditional Sie & Er regatta, the children's sailing week for Optimists and ongoing youth training. The Ost-West/West-Ost regatta was originally run as a mid-lake regatta and, in its tradition of over 50 years, belongs to the most popular sailing rankings on Lake Constance. Under President Wolfgang Pschorr (1986–1999) the club moved from tradition to modernity; under Uli Diem (1999–2006) came major regattas and extension building, and Max Renner (2006–2011) and Hanspeter Simma (2011–2020) shaped later terms of office. The club has five honorary members and offers excerpts from the book "100 Years of Club History" for download. Since the 1970s the BSC has also been active in the Wednesday regatta, which brings sailors together on Wednesdays during the season for yardstick races.
