Boots-Sport-Club Weyhe e.V.
Boots-Sport-Club Weyhe e.V. is a water sports club for sailing and motorboating on Lake Wieltsee and the River Weser in Weyhe-Dreye. The club offers a floating pontoon with power and water, its own crane facility, and a flood-protected boat clubhouse with views over the Weser. Club-owned Optimists, a Conger dinghy and a Flying Cruiser are available for children and young people, complemented by a small bathing beach. Traditional events such as season opening and closing, lantern cruises and work parties shape club life. Roots go back to 1964; in 2020 the club became an independent association from the sailing section of Bremer Sport-Club and has about 80 active and passive members.
History
The history of Boots-Sport-Club Weyhe begins on 10 February 1964, when Post-Sportverein Bremen admitted the Segelclub Dreye, which had existed since 1959, as its sailing section. In the founding year the first harbour was built at the gravel lake “Blauer Werder” in Dreye with shoreline works and floating pontoons. After ownership uncertainty at Blauer Werder in 1971, the club joined forces with Segelsportverein Wiking and created a new home harbour at Sudweyher Wielt in 1972/73; the cut from the Weser to Lake Wieltsee was completed in April 1973. In 1974 the passenger vessel “Stadt Bremen” was acquired as a floating clubhouse but sank under ice pressure on 26 January 1982. In 1985 a new boat clubhouse was built from prefabricated elements. In 1993 neighbouring clubs celebrated 20 years of Lake Wieltsee; in 1997/98 the pontoon was renewed largely by members’ own labour. In 2007 Post-Sportverein was renamed Bremer Sport-Club; in 2010 the municipality of Weyhe acquired Lake Wieltsee at auction. The 50th anniversary was celebrated in 2014, clubhouse extension was resolved in 2016, and in 2019/20 the ProJugend youth group was admitted and a new dinghy pontoon built. On 9 March 2020 nine members founded Boots-Sport-Club Weyhe e.V., registered in Walsrode on 21 April 2020; the sailing section was then transferred from Bremer Sport-Club into the independent club.
