Bootsclub Förbau e.V.

History

On 23 February 1978 nine people founded Bootsclub Förbau e.V. They adopted the statutes and elected the first board with Kurt Frey as 1st chair, Rudolf Bergler as 2nd chair, Peter Mehnert as secretary, Günter Bujak as treasurer, Harald Lottes as sports officer and Walter Bergler as grounds officer; further founding members were Christian Lottes, Werner Dippold and Fritz Bergler. At membership meetings in April and May 1978 fees were set and site planning began. Under site manager Alfred Böhm, about 12,000 square metres of leased former quarry land became a club site with lawn, boat storage and parking. The first midsummer celebration on 21 June 1978 also served as the inauguration; after strangers burned the prepared wood pile overnight, members quickly built an even larger bonfire. Camping was banned, affiliation with the regional sports federation arranged, and in the first year the club already had the 25 sailors needed to join the German Sailing Federation; Sigi Tost took charge of the windsurfing section. In 1979 membership reached 69; there were A-certificate training evenings and first windsurf and sailing courses. Early jetties were built from felled timber with plastic barrels as floats. In 1980 the club held fun and midsummer regattas. In 1981 the slipway of precast concrete from Carl Süß was installed without a building permit under spectacular winter conditions; after official objections the club obtained a tolerance and later legalisation. In 1982 there were 60 active sailors and 30 active windsurfers; surfers received their own jetties and the slipway was extended. In 1983 the club introduced a club championship and the Clubspiegel newsletter, bought a club-owned 420 and two surfboards, and counted 180 members. In 1984 a second equipment shed, a regatta tent and a children's playground were added; a parking and camping plot above the site was leased. In 1985 the club acquired the boat Speedy as a racing and training boat. In 1988 the BCF celebrated its tenth anniversary in Schwarzenbach's Winterlingssaal. In 1990 new jetties with timber-decked steel frames and PVC pipe floats were built, plus a roof between the sheds. In 1992 Heiner Edler became chair; in 1996 Sigi Tost's long era began, during which a prefabricated concrete garage and a Hobie Cat 16 were purchased. In 1997 the BCF hosted a cat ranking regatta. For the 20th anniversary in 1998 long-standing founding members became honorary members. In 2000 the site received a mains power connection. In 2003 a 25th-anniversary jubilee regatta was held and the slipway extended by 15 metres in low water. In 2004 Bertram Vogel ran a Sportsegelschein course; Andreas Floth launched the club website, and the slipway was underfilled with 45 cubic metres of concrete. In 2008 the floating jetties were overhauled. In 2009 youth sailing taster courses ran with the Hof adult education centre. In 2014 Sigi Tost's 18-year era ended; he became honorary chair and Heiner Edler returned as 1st chair. Heiner Edler took on SPOSS certificate training; two children obtained the junior sailing certificate. In 2020 and 2021 the coronavirus pandemic halted regattas and club life. On 16 June 2021 long-serving 2nd chair Brigitte Lottes died.
