History

De Blauwe Schuit has been the student sailing association of Leiden since 1966. In almost fifty years the club grew to about 300 students and many alumni and owns its own society building, boat shed and harbour at the University Watersports Centre in Leiderdorp. Its aim is to make sailing and racing accessible to students; sailing knowledge, instruction, event organisation and fleet maintenance are passed on from generation to generation. The club is known for its open character, active members and the balance of sustainable (racing) sailing with social life and personal development in many committees. The 63rd board “Roerend” (2025/2026) continues that tradition. Activities and successes range from the Leidse Onderlinge on the Kaag and the Nestor Trophy at Braassemermeer to national and international starts with RS500, Polyvalk and the cabin yacht FireFly.
