The Baltic Sailing Association Berlin Group is a traditional sailing club on Großer Wannsee in Berlin-Zehlendorf. Cruising grounds are Wannsee and the Havel waters; with mast lowering, Brandenburg waters and the Mecklenburg Lake District are also reachable. The club has a clubhouse, harbour and fixed jetty and sails Optimist, ILCA, 420, 505, Zugvogel and Schwertzugvogel among others. Focus areas are youth development with Optimist courses, training through to racing, and club regattas such as the Friday regatta and the Pokal der kühnen Segler. Club evenings take place on the first Thursday of each month from 8 p.m. in the clubhouse.
History
The Baltic Sailing Association (BSV) traces back to five founding clubs in the Baltic region: 1878 Riga Yacht Club, 1883 Libau Yacht Club Nord, 1885 Livonian Yacht Club, 1888 Estonian Sea Yacht Club and 1891 Arensburg Yacht Club. After the resettlement of Baltic Germans in 1939/1940, the clubs united on 28 January 1940 in Gotenhafen as Baltische Segler-Vereinigung e.V. After the war and loss of the fleet, the club continued with its seat in Lübeck and was re-registered on 17 January 1949; by 1953 it again had 221 members. In Berlin, former members met monthly from 1951; from 1958 club evenings were held at Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee. From 1966 the Berlin group has its own grounds at Am Großen Wannsee 20; by 1970 clubhouse, harbour and fixed jetty were built. Internal youth training began in 1974/1975; Dietrich Schilling became Pirate class European runner-up in 1975. In 1977 the Berlin association was founded as an independent legal entity. Sporting highlights include Rolf Schmidt (German 420 championship 1984, later world titles and Olympic participation in the 470; 1990 470 world champion with Wolfgang Hunger). In 1996 the clubhouse was rebuilt as a Nordic stave church; in 2002 the grounds were purchased. The BSV celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2003 and its 140th in 2018. According to the club, the Berlin group was founded in 1965 and initially used a Norwegian stave church as a boat shed.

Youth section
Active youth section with Optimist training from about age 7 to the junior sailing certificate, later recreational and racing training in Laser, 420, 505 and Schwertzugvogel; cooperation with Trainingsgemeinschaft Wannsee (TGW); contact Lorenz Wedegärtner.
