Baltische Seglervereinigung Hamburg e.V.
The Baltische Seglervereinigung Hamburg e.V. is a traditional sailing club on the Dove Elbe in the Vier- und Marschlanden area of Hamburg-Bergedorf. The club has a clubhouse on Moorfleeter Deich, pontoons with berths, a yard, club boats including Optimists and three Omega dinghies, and the club yacht RUNÖ. Regular Optimist and youth training, Friday sailing and the weekly Wednesday regatta shape the programme for beginners and experienced sailors. With roots dating back to 1878 at the Riga Yacht Club and sites in Hamburg, Berlin and Steinhude, the club combines community spirit, training up to the coastal yachtmaster certificate and award-winning youth work.
History
The history of the Baltische Seglervereinigung begins in 1878 with the Riga Yacht Club in the Baltic region. Today the BSV is based in Hamburg, Berlin and Steinhude and looks back on a long sailing tradition. In Hamburg the group sails on the Dove Elbe water park in the Vier- und Marschlanden; the clubhouse is on Moorfleeter Deich. Community and volunteering define the club: building the clubhouse, maintaining the grounds and organising events are done by members for members. The sporting offer ranges from the traditional Wednesday regatta and Optimist and youth training to coastal sailing on the club yacht RUNÖ, an X-Yachts IMX 40. Three Omega dinghies in race version were also acquired as club boats, the Polish sister of the German H-dinghy. In 2017 the Baltische Seglervereinigung was named Club of the Year at Hanse Boot, especially for youth work run by young people for young people; the club also received a new Optimist for youth training. The BSV is rooted in the Bergedorf district and cooperates with associations such as the DSV and HSB.
