Baltische Segler-Vereinigung e.V.
The Baltische Segler-Vereinigung e.V. is a traditional sailing club with regional groups in Steinhude, Hamburg and Berlin. On Lake Steinhude, at 29.1 kmĀ² the largest lake in north-west Germany, a clubhouse built by members in the late 1960s serves as the meeting place of the Steinhude group. The Hamburg group sails on the Dove Elbe from the Moorfleeter Deich marina, while the Berlin group sails on Lake Wannsee and the Havel waters as far as the Brandenburg waterways and the Mecklenburg Lake District. Regular yardstick-rated regattas and the boat classes H-Boot, 420, 505 and Pirat shape the sporting offer. The club's history ranges from the founding of the Hanover group in 1954 and the Berlin group in 1965 to today's location groups.
History
In 1954 three members of the Baltische Segler-Vereinigung founded the Hanover group, which grew to 13 members in the same year and is today based at Lake Steinhude as the Steinhude group. The present Steinhude clubhouse was built by members' own labour at the end of the 1960s and has since been a popular meeting place not only for the group's own members. The sailing area is Lake Steinhude, at 29.1 kmĀ² the largest lake in north-west Germany. The group's sporting work is supported by the Lower Saxony Lotto Sports Foundation and the Sparkassen Sports Fund Hanover. The Hamburg group has its sailing area on the Dove Elbe and its clubhouse at the Moorfleeter Deich marina; it is active in all branches of sailing, mainly races H-dinghies, 420s, 505s and Pirates, and regularly sails yardstick regattas. The Berlin group of the Baltische Segler-Vereinigung was founded in 1965. On the Wannsee plot at the time of takeover stood a Norwegian stave church built around the turn of the century and used as a boatshed. The Berlin group's waters are Lake Wannsee and the Havel; with mast stepping, the Brandenburg waterways and the Mecklenburg Lake District are also reachable, and from Berlin the North Sea and Baltic Sea can be reached by water.
