Akademischer Segler-Verein e.V.
The Akademischer Segler-Verein e.V. (ASV) is a student-oriented sailing club in Berlin-Spandau on the Scharfe Lanke inlet of the River Havel. At the clubhouse with grounds, swimming pier and a fleet of dinghies, keelboats and the offshore yacht Walross 4, members enjoy local sailing and ocean passages. Friday training, Thursday evening races plus Havel Klassik and the Max-Oertz Prize shape the programme for students, pupils and sailors. Since 1886 the ASV has linked studying in Berlin with sailing worldwide, including Atlantic voyages and international ambassador roles.
History
According to its own account, the Akademischer Segler-Verein e.V. has been sailing since 1886 (#gonesailingsince1886) and combines studying in Berlin with sailing worldwide. Club history includes expeditions and ocean races: with Walross II the club sailed to Spitsbergen, and with Walross III it took part in the Whitbread Round the World Race 1981/82. Today Walross 4 is the flagship; in 2025/26 a sea voyage crosses the Atlantic to the USA. In 2026 Walross 4 took part as Berlin's sailing ambassador in the Sail4th 250 Parade in New York, accompanied SSS Gorch Fock and delivered a greeting from Berlin's Governing Mayor to the Mayor of New York. At Scharfe Lanke the ASV maintains local Havel sailing, regattas such as Havel Klassik and the Max-Oertz Prize, and student-led club life at the clubhouse.
