Altenbrucher Seesportverein e.V.

Altenbrucher Seesportverein e.V. operates a tide-dependent marina about five kilometres east of Cuxhaven with 40 berths for boats drawing up to two and a half metres. From the harbour, sailors and motorboaters reach the Elbe, the Wadden Sea and the German Bight, as well as destinations such as Heligoland, Neuwerk and the East and North Frisian Islands. The club offers sanitary facilities, shore power and water, plus catering at the club restaurant Zur Schleuse. With around 250 members and 35 sailing and motor boats, squadron and racing events, the annual harbour festival, skippers' ball, film night and winter hike shape club life. Guest berths are welcome; the club is also a member of the Danish Frihavn association.

History

Altenbrucher Seesportverein e.V. runs the Altenbruch marina and maintains an active club life with squadron sails, races, harbour festival, skippers' ball and winter hike. In June 2011 the completion of the eastern harbour sluice (Schlengel) was celebrated with boat christenings and a club party; members and a boatyard had driven the works. At the 2012 annual general meeting, renovation of the eastern sluice and harbour-festival work were highlighted; Bernd Rohde stepped down as second chair after a long term, Andreas Siemsen succeeded him, Kerstin Philipp remained secretary and Dr Klaus-Gerrit Gerdts treasurer. Honorary chair Helmut Schulz also served as auditor. Later the western sluice renovation was central; a members' meeting rejected lockable steel gates and raised mandatory work hours. Traditional events such as the skippers' ball with the Olenbrooker Schlüsenchor, partnership with SBC Neufeld and the annual winter or kale hike still define the club. Today it has about 250 members with 35 sailing and motor boats and belongs to the Danish Frihavn association, offering guest-berth discounts in many North and Baltic Sea harbours.
