Alb Sailing Team e.V.
Alb Sailing Team e.V. (AST e.V.) is a sailing club based in Scharenstetten near Dornstadt on the Swabian Alb. Its focus is cruising sailing on inland lakes as well as in the Mediterranean. The club has three trained skippers with boat licences and radio certificates; seamanship, navigation, and ship and sail technology are central, all within a strong camaraderie. New members interested in sailing are welcome; after the Croatia sailing trip in 2021, five crew members joined the club. Following the termination of the lease for the clubhouse, the club is looking for new premises and continues to organise joint trips, including voyages to Greece and a planned tour around Mallorca and Ibiza.
History
After an eventful year 2020 without a sailing trip and further activities due to the coronavirus pandemic, Alb Sailing Team e.V. restructured itself at a virtual general meeting on 16 January 2021. Gerhard Weber was elected as 1st Chair, Benno Meyer as 2nd Chair, Georg Unbehaun as treasurer and Rolf Salzmann as secretary. Motions to create a club website and on donations were adopted. In 2021 members organised a privately arranged sailing trip to Croatia from 11 to 19 June; five crew members subsequently joined the club. The same year was marked by the termination of the clubhouse lease by the municipality of Dornstadt following a unanimous decision of the Scharenstetten local council; no reasons were given, and efforts to talk with the council and Mayor Braig failed. Rumours of the club being dissolved were expressly rejected. At the annual general meeting on 29 January 2022 all office holders were confirmed for a further three years. In 2022 several joint activities followed, including a sailing trip at the end of June in the Greek Aegean as preparation for a crew member's SKS exam, which Holger passed with distinction in Croatia in July, as well as the traditional cycling weekend at Lake Constance in September. The annual general meeting on 11 February 2023 reported successful consolidation and restructuring; no elections were due, as office holders were elected for three years. Planned activities included catering at a sponsor company's anniversary, a cycling trip to South Tyrol and a visit to the Lower Rhine; for 2024 a sailing trip around Mallorca and Ibiza was envisaged. The club continues to seek new premises and gladly welcomes further members.
