History

The Academic Sailing Club Constance (ASCK) was founded in 2004 by former sailing instructors from the University and the then University of Applied Sciences in Constance. The aim was to give sailors with an academic background and others a shared club structure on Lake Constance. From the start, access to a club-owned fleet was central: alongside accessible dinghies the club also invested in more demanding skiffs. The fleet includes the H-Boats Shanghai and Singapore, the Larsen Kanapee, the historic wooden Dragon Falken from 1935, Laser dinghies, the 29er Little Sandjana and the La Prairie Surf Blue Whale. The wooden Dragon was maintained for years, launched in 2018 and later hauled out for maintenance; a Dragon festival celebrated the historic boat. The H-Boats were regularly overhauled, including new masts, a spinnaker and in 2023 a major refit of Shanghai with new racing sails. The club supports regatta participation and organises club events such as the Altnau Day-Night Regatta. Parallel offerings grew, including Wednesday training for advanced and racing sailors and Sunday evening sailing at WASPO. Today ASCK has around 200 members and combines training, boat hire and social club life on Lake Constance.
