Aqua Fun Wintersdorf e.V.
Aqua Fun Wintersdorf e.V. is a water sports and leisure club on Lake Haselbach in the Altenburger Land region of Thuringia. Its main focus is sailing, cutter rowing and dragon boat sport; environmentally friendly water sports such as surfing, paddling, rowing and kayaking are also offered. The club grounds lie by the lake with a jetty and shared use with other clubs; licensed coaches teach sailing and sea sports. Children from the age of eight can learn sailing and swimming, complemented by youth events, holiday programmes and multi-discipline sea sports. Regattas, club weekends and the annual dragon boat festival shape club life on the 335-hectare Haselbacher See.
History
Aqua Fun Wintersdorf e.V. has its roots in multi-discipline sea sports. Since 2000 the club has held a traditional spring sail-out, now annually on Whit Sunday. In 2001 it hosted the Thuringian youth games of the Thuringian Sailing Association. In 2002 Lake Haselbach saw the Thuringian state championships and the German championship in dinghy multi-discipline competition. That same year Wintersdorf municipality bought the Thuringian part of the lake; planning of the shared club grounds followed. Fencing of the site began in 2004; a jetty and container building were to follow in 2005. On 10 September 2005 the club hosted the German championships in 5000-metre cutter rowing. In 2006 Aqua Fun ran the sailing events of the European championship in sea sports multi-discipline at Lake Haselbach. The lake is a former Haselbach open-cast mining pit of about 335 hectares and up to 31 metres deep, flooded until 1999 with mine water from Schleenhain. Today the club holds annual regattas, sea sports competitions and the dragon boat race plus further leisure activities. In 2019 it completed measures for the child-protection seal „Sportverein aktiv im Kinderschutz“.
