A.S.D. Andora Match Race
Andora Match Race is a non-profit sailing school and amateur sports association (ASD) based in the harbour of Andora on the Ligurian Riviera di Ponente. The base is at Cala n° 17 in Porto di Andora; sailing takes place on cabin yachts of about 7 to 11 metres between Diano Marina and Alassio. The programme includes multi-level sailing courses, day sails, regatta training including match racing on J/24s, themed stages and training for the Italian Patente Nautica. Since 2011 the inclusive project Vela senza barriere has welcomed people with physical or cognitive disabilities. The club is affiliated with FIV, UISP, CONI and CIP and serves members of all ages from beginners to racers.
History
Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Andora Match Race was founded in Andora in 2006 by brothers Luca and Marco Borrelli together with friends, to share their passion for sailing and especially match racing. The association's first boats were Isola 21' from Cantiere Politi, named Cuore and Rondine. Its mission is to develop and spread outdoor sports, particularly sailing and nautical activities, as a means of moral and psychophysical education for members, with special attention to social inclusion of people with disabilities and respect for the sea and environment. Since 2011 the sailing school has continuously offered introductory courses and day sails for people with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, including on NEO 495 within the Vela senza barriere project. The club is affiliated with the Federazione Italiana Vela (FIV), UISP, the CONI register of sports societies and the Comitato Italiano Paralimpico (CIP). The team takes part in major events such as Les Voiles d'Antibes, Vele d'epoca d'Imperia (Panerai Classic Yacht Challenge), Giraglia Rolex Cup, Le mille vele, Campionato Invernale West Liguria and the Settimane Internazionali di Alassio; at the Campionato Invernale di Loano the team boats Gambalunga and PDF achieved a double podium. Today Andora Match Race runs the sailing school in Porto di Andora with FIV- and UISP-qualified instructors, a cabin-boat fleet, a match-race academy on J/24s and Patente Nautica training.
