History

Ammerlander Segel-Club began around 1896 as a football club, then became a tennis club and finally the Ammerlander sailing club. First sailing races from the steamer pier took place in 1901/1902. In 1903 a small clubhouse was built in the Sailer inn garden; in 1923 inflation and a notice forced the hut to be moved by raft to the shore at Kinkhaus. After the world wars and a restart from 1947, the club was re-founded as a registered association on 28 June 1952 with 30 founding members; in 1953 it joined the German Sailing Federation. By 1960 the Große Ammerlander had grown into a major event with 141 yachts from 16 clubs. After temporary leased shore sites, the Grundstücksverein für Ammerlander Segler e.V. was founded in 1972; since 7 July 1973 the club has leased its present grounds on Südliche Seestraße. The long-awaited pier was built in 1980; from the 1970s Hobie Cat, Dyas, Flying Dutchman, Laser and Optimist became established. In 1988 the club hosted the German Hobie Cat 16 class championship, and in 1996 it celebrated its centenary with Hubert Rank's chronicle and a historic jubilee race. In 2000 Dietlind von Laßberg became the first woman president; youth and junior work with weekly training and Lake Garda camps was strongly expanded under Michael Schätz. The 111th anniversary followed in 2007, and in 2012 the club hosted the International German Korsar Championship. The 120th and, with delay, 125th anniversaries were celebrated in 2016 and 2022. Today AmSC is a family-style traditional club on Lake Starnberg with a strong youth section and a varied regatta calendar.
