AVAV - Associazione Velica Alto Verbano
Associazione Velica Alto Verbano (AVAV) is a traditional sailing club in Luino on Lake Maggiore and has promoted sailing and tennis since its founding in 1938. The club operates from Viale Dante Alighieri with secretariat services, haul-out and dry boat storage, and programmes for dinghy and keelboat classes. Youth pathways include Pre-Agonistica, Optimist and ILCA/Laser teams with FIV coaches; sailing school courses run for children, teenagers and adults. AVAV hosts regional and national regattas such as the Trofeo del Nostromo, zonal events and Italian championships, and combines club sailing with a members' tennis offer.
History
Associazione Velica Alto Verbano (AVAV) was founded in 1938. As a Società Dilettantistica Cooperativa a.r.l., the club has since promoted sailing and tennis through courses, regattas, tournaments and other sporting events. According to its stated aims, AVAV seeks to contribute to the moral education of young people without political or religious orientation and without profit motive. Today the club is based in Luino on the Alto Verbano shore of Lake Maggiore and regularly organises zonal and national regattas, including the long-standing Trofeo del Nostromo (56th edition), zonal races for Meteor and J/24, and the Italian Star Class Championship. The youth section covers Pre-Agonistica (about 6–13 years), Optimist (about 8–15 years) and Laser/ILCA (about 13–21 years); FIV instructors support training, racing and travel. AVAV also offers summer sailing school for children and teenagers and tennis with member rates and tennis credit. With a safeguarding organisational model (August 2024) and clear membership categories (cooperative, sport, student, junior and pupil members), the club is firmly rooted in the regional sailing community.
