Øresunds Sejlklub Frem

Øresunds Sejlklub Frem is a traditional sailing club based at Svanemøllehavnen in Copenhagen, Denmark's largest marina. Founded in 1897, the club has about 750 members and shares the harbour with other sailing, rowing and youth clubs on the Øresund. Facilities include a clubhouse, a land yard with sheds and cranes, and a sailing school with gaff-rigged boats, Spækhugger boats and an IF boat. Weekly training, theory courses, racing via Svanemøllebugten Sejlsport and joint youth work with KØS define the programme. The long club history and an active community of cruising and racing sailors make Frem a central hub of Copenhagen's sailing scene.

History

Øresunds Sejlklub Frem was founded in 1897 and looks back on more than 125 years of club history. The club is based at Svanemøllehavnen in Copenhagen, Denmark's largest marina, which it shares with other sailing, rowing and youth clubs. As early as 1898 the Øresundsuge emerged in the waters between Copenhagen and Malmö; it ran until 1972 and was revived in 2015. The school fleet shapes the club story: gaff-rigger Frem I was built in 1939 after a lottery fundraising scheme and designed by Georg Berg; Frem III followed in 1952. In 1973 IF boat Frem II was added, in 1983 Spækhugger Spækuline, and in 2014 Den røde løber joined as another school Spækhugger. Since 1990 the Gråsælerne group has offered daytime activities for experienced members. Across the decades the club has stayed active summer and winter with around 750 members and engaged in the Nordhavn tunnel dialogue to protect harbour and club use.
