Odense Sejlklub
Odense Sejlklub is an active sailing club on Stige Ø on the north-eastern side of the Odense Canal and Odense Fjord in Denmark. The club offers a clubhouse, 95 berths in the jointly operated Lystbådehavnen Stige Ø marina, and its own pier at Korshavn on Fyns Hoved with electricity, water and a barbecue area. Facilities and programmes include a certified adult sailing school on Nordic Folkboats, a youth-friendly junior section, and social and sporting activities such as season opening, squadron sailing and night sails. The club welcomes families, young sailors aged 7 to 20, and adults who want to learn sailing or improve their skills; training and regattas shape the programme. A distinctive feature is its long tradition since founding in 1911 as successor to the 1883 Kapsejladsselskabet på Odense Fjord, complemented by the Fyn Rundt distance race (now Classic Fyn Rundt) and hosting the 2025 Youth Danish Championships at Korshavn.
History
Odense Sejlklub was founded in 1911 as successor to the 1883 Kapsejladsselskabet på Odense Fjord and has since become a centre of sailing in Odense and the surrounding area. The club burgee with a blue lily on a white background was hoisted at the season opening on 9 May 1948 and symbolises purity, strength and navigational tradition. In 1934 the club initiated the Fyn Rundt distance race; the first event ran from 22 to 24 June 1934 from Stige Ø and remains one of its defining traditions. Together with Kerteminde Sejlklub the event is now known as Classic Fyn Rundt and is a recurring highlight at Korshavn. In 2007 Odense Sejlklub was among the first Danish clubs to receive Dansk Sejlunion’s Youth-Friendly Sailing Club certification, renewed in 2025. Also in 2007 the adult sailing school started; in 2010 the club became one of the first Dansk Sejlunion certified sailing schools and continues that status. The Stige Ø site lies on the north-eastern side of the Odense Canal; berths are run via the independent Lystbådehavnen Stige Ø together with Sejlklubben Fjorden and Odense Yachtklub, with Odense Sejlklub holding 95 of 143 berths. Another major asset is the club’s own 70-metre Korshavn pier on the Korsøre spit at Fyns Hoved. In 2025 the club hosts the Youth Danish Championships (UDM25) from 13 to 14 September at Korshavn, underscoring its role as a traditional yet forward-looking sailing organisation.
