The Nord-Schwäbischer Segel-Club e. V. (NSSC) is a traditional sailing club for Lake Constance sailors with its home port at Marina Ultramarin in Gohren near Kressbronn. The club maintains its own platform at jetty 4 with the distinctive rigging mast as well as the Heckenplatz as a meeting place in bad weather and for the annual Heckenfest. The focus is on cruising on Lake Constance with the season opening sail, Whitsun and summer cruises and the season closing sail, complemented by sailing training and youth support. Since its founding in 1963 at Burgauer See, the club has grown into an active cruising community on Lake Constance with around 110 members and more than 50 sailing boats.
History
The Nord-Schwäbischer Segel-Club was founded in 1963 at Burgauer See. Through berth availability in the mid-1960s at Meichle & Mohr in the Baggerloch, the present core of the NSSC took shape. The former sections Bodensee, Faiminger See and Seesegeln have since been merged into one overall club. The official registered seat is Ulm on the Danube; the sailing focus is at the modern Ultramarin harbour – the Meichle & Mohr Marina in Gohren between Langenargen and Kressbronn on Lake Constance. The NSSC rigging mast on the club’s own platform at jetty 4 was built by members themselves and is one of the harbour’s landmarks; it serves as a central meeting point during the sailing season. The mast’s 30th anniversary was specially celebrated in the harbour. The club also marked its 60th anniversary and recalled its founding at Burgauer and Faiminger See. Today the NSSC has about 110 active members with more than 50 sailing boats. Club activities centre mainly on cruising on Lake Constance, while many members also sail their own or chartered boats on the world’s oceans. Fixed programme highlights such as the season opening with flag parade, Whitsun cruise, Bodensee-Rund summer cruise, Heckenfest, season closing sail and spring and autumn work days still shape club life. The club commits to the Blue Anchor programme within the Internationale Wassersportgemeinschaft Bodensee and thus contributes to environmental protection.
