Nordostbayerischer Segelclub e.V.
Nordostbayerischer Segelclub e.V. (NOSC) is a small sailing club on the outskirts of Bamberg, founded in 1963 in Eschenbach in the Upper Palatinate and based in Breitengüßbach since 1974. The water area, recognised by the Bavarian Sailing Association as an official sailing venue, offers members ten water berths and twenty land berths plus club-owned boats for free use. The fleet includes four Optimists for the youngest sailors, two ILCA 7 and one 420er for more competitive sailing, and a Gruben Gipsy for comfortable family sailing from a water berth. A fixed slipway, a small harbour in the adjacent bay and a terrace with sunset views characterise the club grounds. With around fifty members, the club emphasises accessible sailing and a varied programme of regattas and social events.
History
Nordostbayerischer Segelclub e.V. (NOSC) was founded in 1963 in Eschenbach in the Upper Palatinate. The name derives from the full club name Nord-Ost-Bayerischer-Segel-Club. In 1974 the club moved to Breitengüßbach, where it remains active today with around fifty members. The sailing area is on the outskirts of Bamberg; after the lake was divided the venue is no longer particularly large, but it is still recognised by the Bavarian Sailing Association as an official sailing venue and is well suited for local recreation. Members have access to ten water berths and twenty land berths. The club owns boats that can be used at no extra cost: four Optimists for the youngest, two ILCA 7 and one 420er for more competitive sailing, and a Gruben Gipsy for more comfortable family sailing. Dinghies can be launched via a fixed slipway. A bay with a small harbour adjoins the club grounds and is clearly visible from a terrace above. The club stresses that sailing is not an elite sport and that membership fees are in line with ordinary sports clubs. Due to limited resources, NOSC cannot offer sail training. Club life includes regattas and many social events such as opening-of-season sailing, harbour festival, lantern sailing, work parties and a monthly regulars' table.
