Müritz-Segel-Verein Rechlin e.V.
Müritz-Segel-Verein Rechlin e.V. (MSVR) has been a fixture for sailors on the southern Müritz for more than 60 years and is a member of the German Sailing Association (DSV no. MV-006). On the eastern shore of the Kleine Müritz the club operates Rechlin sailing harbour with around 100 berths for day and long-term guests, ashore storage for dinghies, winter storage, a slipway and modern sanitary facilities. Active club life combines cruising with committed regatta sailing; cruiser regattas and events such as the cruising sailors' gathering shape the season. The widely recognised youth programme trains children twice weekly in Optimist, ILCA 4 and ILCA 6. The clubhouse restaurant Möwennest invites visitors to stay – MSVR thrives on a mix of young and old.
History
With the shipyard established in 1948, interest in water sports grew in Rechlin, leading ten enthusiasts to found the sailing section within the company sports community Motor Rechlin on 10 March 1952. Organised sailing began with five boats. By 1954 the fleet comprised eleven boats (seven Pirat and four Jollenkreuzer) with 18 members. Under section leader Heinz Rausch, who held the role for 27 years, the section grew to 31 sailors and 17 boats by 1956; Rechlin became the sailing centre of the Neubrandenburg district. In 1960 Rechlin sailors first took part in the international Baltic Sea Week; membership stood at 61. From 1961 to 1989 competitive sport developed strongly; many juniors reached the top ranks nationally. In 1972/73 the sailing harbour was rebuilt and the new clubhouse greatly improved conditions for theory training. In 1976/77 the section became a district training centre for youth; full-time coaches were employed for the first time. German reunification and changed conditions at the shipyard as sponsor of the company sports community made continuation impossible. In July 1990 sailors founded the independent Müritz Segel-Verein Rechlin e.V. and joined DSV-MV with membership number 006. The new era began in 1991/92 with 69 members, including 20 children; in 1991 the club welcomed 600 guest boats. Sanitary facilities, a breakwater and public landing stages were built and the Seglerheim restaurant opened. In 1993/94 membership rose to 113. In 1995 the harbour was electrified; 1,200 boats and about 3,600 guests visited that season. In 2002 sailors and the municipality celebrated 50 years of sailing in Rechlin from 16 to 18 August; the JQR regatta saw a record 213 boats. In 2003/04 the clubhouse was rebuilt with extensive member volunteer work. In 2012 members and guests celebrated the club's 60th anniversary with a star parade, brass band music and a festival in MSVR harbour. In 2014, after a grant award, the club extended its pontoon system with a concrete floating pier; rear piers were renovated and the slipway completely renewed – all by member volunteer effort.
