Marine-Regatta-Verein Stützpunkt Peenemünde 1990 e.V.

The Marine-Regatta-Verein Stützpunkt Peenemünde 1990 e.V. is a sailing club on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom near the Peene estuary, with spacious club grounds and its own harbour on Hafenpromenade. The club operates several ZK 10 cutters, dinghies such as Optimist, Cadet, ILCA and 420er, and the keel yacht Kranich, and offers trial sailing, guest berths and regular youth training on the Peene stream and Greifswalder Bodden. Around 25 adults and a similar number of children and young people sail in an organised way; the youth section trains weekly and takes part in regattas across Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Highlights include the Rudenregatta for ZK 10 cutters, held since 1992, and the Peenemünde Jollenpokal, held since 2013. Since 1990 the MRV has combined traditional cutter sailing, active youth development and cruising in the Baltic region as far as Poland and Sweden.

History

The Marine-Regatta-Verein was founded in 1990 and has sailed since then under the official name Marine-Regatta-Verein Stützpunkt Peenemünde 1990 e.V. on the island of Usedom. At the time of founding, no member owned a private boat; almost all adult sailing activities were based on four club-owned ZK 10 cutters. Community sailing, boat maintenance and regatta trips shaped club life from the outset. In 1992 the idea of the club's own cutter race led to the Rudenregatta, which has been held annually ever since with two to three races on the Peene stream and Greifswalder Bodden and has become a fixture in the East German cutter scene. The number of members' private boats grew considerably over time, but cutter sailing remained a core offering for sailors without their own boat. Since 2013 the MRV has organised the Peenemünde Jollenpokal as part of the children's and youth sailing games, initially mainly for Optimists and from 2016 with starters from several dinghy classes in the region. The youth section has grown steadily in recent years and now comprises 26 young sailors aged 8 to 19. In 2016 the cutter Ösfass was completely rebuilt by Michael Groth and his crew and has since been used regularly at cutter regattas. The club has invested in infrastructure such as pontoon repairs, a concrete pontoon, boat storage and sanitary facilities, and is a member of the Deutscher Marinebund, Kreissportbund Vorpommern-Greifswald, Deutscher Seesportverband, Landesseesportverband M-V and Seglerverband Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
