History
SMYC - SEGEL- UND MOTORYACHTING CLUB was founded on 13 February 2013 and has been registered as an association based in Mödling since 9 April 2013 (ZVR number 373371805). From the start, supporting members in all aspects of sailing and motorboating has been central; the main interest is teaching nautical knowledge and experience. The club regularly runs activities in Austria and abroad and provides year-round training across all areas of nautics. The training offer includes inland licences such as the 10 m skipper licence (Danube licence) and the MSVÖ A certificate as well as coastal licences (FB1, FB2, FB3) in cooperation with Blue-2 The Sailing Academy. Courses and exams take place among other locations in Tulln, Wördern, Oggau and Rust on Lake Neusiedl and in the Baden and Wiener Neustadt area. Theory for the skipper licence uses the handbook Handbuch für Sport-Motorbootfahrer in Österreich by Stephan Giesinger and Otto Waczek. The club's training boat is a DRACO 2100 Sportcab. Besides licence courses, the club organises spring boat servicing, practice-and-perfection sessions, pyrotechnics courses and cruises under the motto out on the water.
