Mini Yacht Club Wien
Mini Yacht Club Wien is a registered association for model yacht racing sailors based in Vienna, with its home waters at Schwanensee in the WIG 74 park in Favoriten. The club focuses on optimising radio-controlled sailing yachts and both hosts and attends national and international model sailing regattas. Racing is mainly in the F5-E/IOM, F5-M, F5-10 and Mini 40 classes as well as the beginner series Dragon Force Austria. With around 14 regattas per year, MYC Wien is among the most active organisers in Austrian RC sailing and offers a dense competition programme for beginners and experienced skippers alike.
History
Mini Yacht Club Wien was founded in 1980. From 1987 to 2014 the club was led by Obmann Karl Schmidt; after his death Helmut Türk took over as Obmann, with Josef Feiler as deputy. The club's aim is to optimise RC sailing yachts and to take part in and organise RC regattas. In 2005 the Austrian Sailing Federation asked the club to contribute a model sailing regatta for the public at the 2006 ISAF World Sailing Games in Weiden on Lake Neusiedl. Member Franz Muchitsch built six identical sailing boats over the winter for public sailing; Obmann Karl Schmidt and his wife were present throughout the week. This led to close cooperation with Yacht Club Weiden. Since 2005 MYC Wien has held annual RC sailing regattas in the F5-E/One Meter class, and since 2012 also in Mini 40 Multihull. Early-season test regattas (Mini Eisarsch) allow experimentation before ranking events. Since 2015 Schwanensee in WIG 74 Favoriten has again been the home venue, with about six F5-E regattas per year. With the Dragon Force Austria series (from 2016, about 20 participants and six events yearly), MYC Wien became the club with the most race dates in Austria – around 14 regattas across all classes. According to the imprint, Eric Gielen is currently Obmann and Klaus Peter Egler is deputy.
