Watersport Vereniging Voorschoten
Watersport Vereniging Voorschoten is a watersports club in the water-rich municipality of Voorschoten in South Holland and serves as a base for days out on the water. Founded in 1975, the association promotes watersports by providing and maintaining as many berths as possible within the municipality so that they remain affordable for as many residents as possible. The club now manages 258 jetties at several sites, including Prof. Boerhaaveweg (De Kom), Molenlaan, Carel Fabritiuslaan, Rietzangerpad and Bijdorp. There is a multi-year waiting list; places are for Voorschoten residents with their own liability-insured boat. For the 50th anniversary in 2025 a preparatory course for Vaarbewijs 1 was organised.
History
Watersport Vereniging Voorschoten was founded in June 1975 and is registered under number 40445108 in the associations register of the Chamber of Commerce in Leiden. Among the founders was Jan Scholtes, who first served as treasurer and later worked for decades in harbour management. Volunteers built the first jetties along Molenlaan and later along Boerhaaveweg; Scholtes also handled winter maintenance and tarring for many years. The club grew into a thriving community and over its lifetime has offered more than 1,000 members a good and affordable berth. In 2013 plans for new jetties in the Roukoopvaart were rejected by the municipality; the board then pursued alternatives. The expansion of the Boerhavekom with new composite jetties is considered a milestone. In February 2023 the renewed jetties at Molenlaan and surroundings were handed over. For the 50th anniversary in 2025 the club organised a well-attended preparatory course for Vaarbewijs 1. Today WVV manages 258 jetties at several locations in Voorschoten and maintains a long waiting list for new berths.
