WSKLuM Vilvoorde

WSKLuM Vilvoorde is an inclusive sailing club (vzw) in Vilvoorde near Brussels that aims to make sailing accessible and affordable for young and old. The club is located on Havendoklaan by the harbour canal and has invested specifically in facilities for adaptive sailors (G-sailing). The programme includes sailing courses, youth sailing, boat storage on the club grounds, and club activities with Caravelle boats and shared outings. Regular course days, clean-up days and the traditional sailing trip to Veere shape club life; the focus is on inclusion and sailing enjoyment at fair membership fees.

History

WSKLuM Vilvoorde presents itself as a sports club that deliberately opens sailing to as many people as possible – from juniors and adults to adaptive sailors. The club website stresses inclusion, affordable entry prices and investment in suitable facilities for G-sailing. Club life regularly features practical work days and training formats: on 9 March 2024 the first clean-up day of the year took place; organised by “Papy Dany”, Caravelles were stepped and launched, the grounds and kitchen cleaned, the flower bed by the terrace refreshed and flyers distributed nearby. On 17 March 2024 the first sailing course day on MM boats followed: theory and practice, sailing together on the “Luxemburg”, then training on a second Caravelle with manoeuvres and sail trim. For G-sailing, member boat “Splinter” was made seaworthy again after years ashore and tested. An annual tradition is the sailing trip to Veere on 1 May, when after light morning air conditions improved and top speeds of about 12 km/h were reached. The club also maintains integrity structures (Club-API) and clear contacts for the board, sailing courses, secretariat, communications and youth.
