History

Wasserburger Segler-Club was founded on 20 December 1969 by Hildegard Ammann, Rolf Baader, Wilhelm Blümlein, Ingo Couball, Wilhelm Duwe, Rudolf Emmert, Peter Fastrich, Hanns Fischer, Paul Ganal, Karl-Heinz Hagelstein, Erik Otto Krebs, Erich Kinzelmann, Ernst Lange-Luperti, Roland Prechtl and Karl Wohlleb. At its 25th anniversary the club already had 168 members, including 24 in the youth group. On that occasion Paul Ganal was made an honorary member for 25 years as treasurer of the WSC. These figures show how much the WSC has changed since its founding and since its 25th birthday. The club now has well over 200 members and is proud of its large and active youth section. The wish expressed in the 25th anniversary publication for a clubhouse of its own near the harbour has since been fulfilled. The clubhouse is housed in the same building as the Haus des Gastes, directly on the Wasserburg peninsula at the harbour. In addition to lectures, instruction, meetings and assemblies, members also meet weekly for a convivial sailors' get-together. During regattas the clubhouse and the youth centre in the basement serve as the regatta office. Since the 2021 season the WSC has had another club boat, the H-Boot Wastl, with an online booking schedule for skippers. Long-serving board members handed over their roles after up to 21 years; a new board team was elected at the 57th annual general meeting on 7 March 2026. The club organises annual Yardstick regattas, the Augustin Sumser Regatta, season opening and closing sails, and joint work events such as de-winterising and harbour clean-ups. The only wish that still remains is to improve the harbour situation so that boats have a safe place even during strong foehn storms.
