TV Vennikel Wassersportabteilung
Water sports department of TV Vennikel 1912 e.V. on the north shore of Lake Elfrath between Krefeld, Moers and Duisburg. Since 1982 the club has offered sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddling with a family-oriented recreational sports focus, its own club fleet, inland boating licence training and an active youth section.
History
Since November 1982, water sports enthusiasts have complemented the gymnastics club in Vennikel as a department, standing for a family-oriented club life with recreational sport fun as the top priority. The department's first provisional location was on the south shore of Lake Elfrath near the DLRG. After several years the club was assigned a site on the former Vennikelstraße. When the lake was further dredged, the department moved to its current location on the north shore. After four years of construction, the clubhouse "Villa 2000" on the north shore of the expanded Lake Elfrath was completed and inaugurated. As a Moers water sports club, TV Vennikel received the property at the northern tip of the lake with a view along the full length of the regatta course. Since 1982 TV Vennikel has offered water sports on Lake Elfrath – today more than 120 water sports enthusiasts are active in sailing, stand-up paddling and kayaking. The department grew to 135 members in 2025. Internal sailing regattas Frost Cup, Summer Cup, Winzer Cup and Martin's Regatta have been organised since 2018 in cooperation with neighbouring sailing clubs as part of the Krefeld dinghy sailing city championship. In 2025 four regattas took place with around 100 participants on 71 boats. With revised notices, new sailing instructions and the construction of a dedicated start boat, organisation and procedures were noticeably improved. The water sports department is debt-free and has invested in infrastructure including a photovoltaic system, new awning, mover and pontoon work. Besides regatta sailing the club organises cruising in Friesland, takes part in Rhine Week and runs an active youth section restructured since 2013. Club life takes place daily in the clubhouse – from OptiKids to inland licence training, sailor and kayak meet-ups and creative groups. Members can access the lake 365 days a year.
