History

Watersportvereniging Hoorn was founded on 10 June 1932 and has since been a fixture of the water sports community in Hoorn. The club and harbour grounds lie directly at Julianapark overlooking the distinctive Hoofdtoren and offer a sheltered harbour on the Hoornse Hop / Markermeer. Over the decades the club grew into an active community with extensive youth sailing training that has produced sailors competing at Olympic, world, European and national championship level. Besides regattas for members, other clubs and class organisations, the club organises cruises, workshops, lectures and the Sinterklaas celebration. The club magazine De Hoornblazer is published five times a year. Through adapted sailing (Sailability) the club enables people with disabilities to take part in sailing. On 2 May 2019 the board signed a declaration of intent for a safe sports climate. Today the harbour has 180 berths, visitor pontoons with electricity, free Wi-Fi, sanitary facilities and clubhouse restaurant De Loods; sloop rowing and coastal rowing are also offered.
