Segelverein Potsdamer Adler e.V.

Segelverein Potsdamer Adler e.V. (SVPA) is an active sailing club in Potsdam and one of six regional performance centres for sailing in Brandenburg. The club sails on Lake Templiner, where members hold club regattas and use a slipway crane for keelboats and larger craft. The programme covers Optimist and ILCA youth work with free trial sessions, regular entries at state youth championships and regional regattas, plus cruising in Ixylon dinghies and catamaran trips on the Baltic Sea. Juniors compete at Opti Cups, Lake Garda and YES in Kiel; in 2026 an SVPA sailor qualified for the youth world championship in the ILCA 6. A distinctive hallmark is the care of classic wooden boats, including the multi-year restoration of the 10 sqm wandering dinghy zetta von spant.

History

Segelverein Potsdamer Adler e.V. is established as one of six regional sailing performance centres in Brandenburg and maintains an active club life on Lake Templiner in Potsdam with youth development, regattas and cruising. A major long-term project was the restoration of the classic 10 sqm wandering dinghy zetta von spant: over four years of planning, building and cooperation the boat was returned to service as a club boat. The dinghy belongs to the historically important z-dinghy construction class, the little sister of the H-dinghy, and was restored with gaff rig. In 2021 the club presented the restored dinghy at the German Classics and exhibited it at the Berlin boat show boot und fun for the 100th anniversary of the 10 sqm wandering dinghy class. Meanwhile the youth section grew into a strong performance base: Adler juniors regularly race at Opti Cups, Brandenburg state youth championships, Berlin championships and international events such as the Lake Garda Meeting and YES in Kiel. In 2026 SVPA sailor Matti qualified for the youth world championship in the ILCA 6. Alongside racing, Baltic catamaran tours and Elbe cruises with the Ixylon dinghy Grenzenlos II shape club life. Season start and end are marked by crane launching, the solstice club regatta and community celebrations.
