Windsurfing Club Angermund e.V.
Windsurfing Club Angermund e.V. is a watersports club on Angermunder See in the north of Düsseldorf. The roughly ten-hectare lake lies at the edge of the Angermund and Lintorf forest and benefits from an open, windy setting. The club runs a VDWS-recognised surf school with training gear, a simulator and weekend courses as well as holiday camps for children and teenagers. Youth development is central: besides windsurfing and stand-up paddling, small dinghies are used by Optimist licence holders, and Friday of each camp ends with a regatta and prize-giving. Founded in 1990 by Willi Bednarz, the club today has 260 members and marks the season with lake clean-ups, lake duty and a season-closing Absurfen.
History
Windsurfing Club Angermund e.V. was founded on 1 June 1990 by Willi Bednarz with fellow windsurfing enthusiasts in Düsseldorf-Angermund. Its base is the roughly ten-hectare Angermunder See at the edge of the Angermund and Lintorf forest; the open location provides good wind. Youth support has been a core aim from the start: early on, members regularly organised trips to the Netherlands that proved popular and grew into a well-attended programme. The club's surf school is affiliated with the VDWS; instructor Roger Gracher is a recognised VDWS school director. The surf school has existed since 2004, with interruptions, and was later revived with Roger Gracher. Each season starts with a major lake clean-up followed by a barbecue and ends in autumn with Absurfen. From mid-May to mid-September, weekend lake duty keeps and protects the club grounds; members serve four hours once a year with another member. Admission requires a windsurfing licence and valid windsurfing liability insurance. Today the club has 260 members and offers weekend surf courses plus summer holiday camps for young people at the lake.
