History

Sport- und Kulturgemeinschaft Frankfurt e.V. (SKG) was founded in 1955 and today has about 1,000 members in twelve sections. The water sports department brings together paddling, rowing, sailing and stand-up paddling at the club grounds in Frankfurt-Niederrad at Main kilometre 31.7 on the right bank. Club life includes the clubhouse, shared meals, themed evenings, parties and a swimming pool. The sailing section has hosted the open Frankfurt city sailing championship for years and defended the club trophy and Silver Cup several times, including in 2019, 2023 and 2025. At the 2025 event, 15 boats from SKG, Segel-Club Niederrad 04 and Frankfurter Yachtclub started; a summer festival with barbecue and live music ran in parallel. Members also take part in monthly work parties, capsize training, manoeuvre practice, trips such as the Funzelfahrt on the Main, and cruising tours with Polyvalk boats in Friesland. Club boats such as the keelboat Babbel and affordable fees underline the focus on recreational sport and community rather than berth rental alone.
