Royal Yacht Club de la Meuse
Royal Yacht Club de la Meuse (RYCM) is a long-established watersports club on Île Monsin in Liège, founded in 1928. The club base sits between the Meuse and the Albert Canal on water ideally suited to light sailing and river cruising. Members benefit from extensive dinghy storage, individual rigging boxes, a pontoon on the Meuse bank and a lifting gantry with winch. The club runs 15 Coupe de Liège regattas each year, the Traversée de Liège and three national and regional regattas. Sailing courses are held at Easter and in July and August; youth stages during spring and summer school holidays complete the programme.
History
Royal Yacht Club de la Meuse was founded in 1928 and became a fixture of Liège's nautical scene. Its base on Île Monsin enjoys waters between the Meuse and Albert Canal that are ideal for light sailing. Over the decades the club grew into a community of around one hundred active members, mainly in sailing but also in river cruising. RYCM organises fifteen annual Coupe de Liège regattas, the traditional Traversée de Liège and three national and regional regattas under the Fédération Francophone de Yachting Belge. In some years it hosts a leg of the FFYB Opti-Tour challenge. It cooperates with Liège rowing clubs, providing safety boats and pilots for their events. Facilities include large dinghy storage, individual rigging boxes, a Meuse bank pontoon and a lifting gantry for launching boats. Sailing courses run at Easter, in July and August with instructors and volunteers. In 2018 the club celebrated its 90th anniversary, marking nine decades of service to watersports.
