Rungsted Sejlklub
Rungsted Sejlklub is the local sailing club at Rungsted Havn on the Danish Øresund coast, continuing a tradition at the harbour since 1928. Re-founded in 2013, the club offers a centrally located clubhouse, dinghy berths near the slipway and a broad programme of cruising, sailing school and racing. Members can book club boats such as Hobiecat catamarans and RS school boats under fixed guidelines; theory and practical courses prepare for the Danish Duelighedsbevis certificate. Regular junior sailing days, club evenings and an online activity calendar shape an open, locally rooted community for experienced sailors and beginners alike throughout the year.
History
Rungsted Sejlklub continues a local sailing tradition at the harbour since 1928. At the start of the 20th century Rungsted was a summer-house area for Copenhagen residents; in 1928 they founded Rungsted Kajakklub with Erik Schottlænder as chairman, quickly reaching hundreds of members. In 1943 an Oslo dinghy was purchased for a new sailing section led by Jørgen Schwanenflügel; after the war the club acquired junior boats J4, J5 and J6 and joined Dansk Sejlunion. On 7 May 1947 Rungsted Sejlklub was officially established; in 1948 the red clubhouse was built on the outer harbour islet and membership grew to 135 active sailors. In the 1960s sailing continued in junior boats; later Rungsted Kyst Sejlklub developed with Optimists, dinghies and a junior section. The present harbour was completed in 1974, funded by sailors, municipality and state; a new large clubhouse followed. Around the millennium the old club ran into difficulties and was dissolved, with activities transferred to KDY. In 2013 local sailors founded the new Rungsted Sejlklub, rejoined Dansk Sejlunion and launched the sailing school in 2014. From 2019 the school expanded with new boats and board energy; in spring 2022 local sailors gained a new clubhouse at Rungsted Havn. In 2023 the club marked its 10th anniversary with flag raising and a barbecue in front of the clubhouse.
