Røyken Seilforening
Røyken Seilforening is the local sailing club for residents of Røyken and a member of Norges Seilforbund. The club operates a modern facility in Nærsnesbukta on the Oslofjord, three kilometres south of Slemmestad, with a concrete pier, two-tonne crane, dinghy launch ramp, floating pier, Optimist storage for twelve boats, kayak berths, boathouse and clubhouse. Active boat classes include Optimist and 2.4mR; the youth programme offers beginner and advanced courses from April through October. Traditional weekly sailing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, club regattas and the Gøy på Vannet summer camp for children aged 8 to 12 shape club life. History
Røyken Seilforening was built up by founders including Rolf Hjerpseth and Håkon Vestgren. Laila Samuelsen founded the women's sailing course and ran it for eighteen years. In the late 1990s Arild Heldal played a key role in re-establishing the dinghy group and contributed strongly to securing the club's current site, building the pier, boathouse and clubhouse, and acquiring dinghies and support boats. Per Ferskaug is recognised as a versatile contributor who helped deliver today's pier, boathouse and clubhouse. The pier was completed in 2003; the boathouse was inaugurated in August 2004 with summer electrical fittings and lighting. In 2022 a new large floating pier and breakwater with buoys for larger boats, swimming ladder, water supply and sunbathing areas was opened. The club hosted the Norwegian championship in the 2.4mR class in 2011. Since 2014 the dinghy group has used two RS Feva boats for advanced Optimist sailors. The club is affiliated with Norges Seilforbund and offers membership among the most affordable on the Oslofjord.
