Real Club Náutico de La Coruña
Real Club Náutico de La Coruña is a traditional Spanish sailing club on the Atlantic in A Coruña, Galicia. Formally founded on 15 April 1927 with roots dating back to 1916, it promotes sailing and other water sports and operates Marina Real with 353 berths inside the port. Facilities include a city-centre clubhouse with restaurant, library, gym and spa, plus the RCNC-Abanca sailing school with youth, adult and race-team programmes. Training and racing in Optimist, ILCA, 420, Finn, J/80 and ORC shape the sporting offer, including adaptive sailing. The club hosts major events such as the Trofeo Infanta Elena and has held the Blue Flag for more than three decades.
History
Real Club Náutico de La Coruña was formally created on 15 April 1927 under president Miguel Feijoo Pardiñas (until 1936), continuing the club established in 1916 at the Casa del Consulado. Its founding aim was to promote all nautical sports, especially rowing and sailing. Two years later the first social building was opened, designed by Antonio Tenreiro after an earlier project by Mario Páez. Growing membership led to a remodelled headquarters inaugurated in 1950 under architect Jacobo Rodríguez Losada. Port facilities and pontoons have since been expanded to 353 berths. The sailing school, open to all citizens, has trained more than 30,000 young people, including world and Olympic champions. The club has organised world-class events such as La Solitaire du Figaro, the Mini Transat and tall-ship races, hosted two dinghy world championships and an ORC cruiser world championship, and was a stop for Cutty Sark and Solitaire du Figaro. It remains one of Spain's most prestigious clubs and has renewed the Blue Flag continuously for over thirty years.
