RC Yachtclub Bayreuth
RC Yachtclub Bayreuth is a model sailing club focused on radio-controlled sailing on Hammerstätter See in the Wilhelminenaue, the former site of the Bayreuth State Garden Show 2016. The small club combines competitive regatta sailing with sociability and outdoor life and expressly welcomes spectators at its events. Sailing is exclusively with wind-powered IOM model boats under international class rules, without an auxiliary motor and with a portable radio transmitter. Seven regattas take place each year from April to October; members also meet on the first Thursday of every month for a club meeting. Since its founding in 1974, the club has grown through several venue changes into a fixed meeting point for model sailors in the Bayreuth region.
History
RC Yachtclub Bayreuth was founded on 16 January 1974 at Gasthaus Kropf in Bayreuth. The first regatta was held on Trebgaster See. In 1976 the club moved to Poppenweiher in Pechgraben. From 1987 sailing took place on Goldkronacher Badesee; at that time there were still the two boat classes F5-M and F5-E. Today only IOM boats (International One Meter) are sailed — one-metre, purely wind-powered model yachts with radio control. Since 2017 regattas have been held on Hammerstätter See in the Wilhelminenaue in the heart of Bayreuth; the lake was artificially created for the 2016 State Garden Show. Seven regattas are held each year. The club has thus been active for over 45 years and combines competitive model sailing with sociable club life, including monthly club meetings and an end-of-year championship celebration.
