RAN Seilforening
RAN Seilforening is a sailing sports club in Øygarden municipality in Norway, based in Anglevik on Lille Sotra on the Hjeltefjord. The club operates harbour facilities with a boat crane and waterside event premises and is organised into dinghy, one-design and cruising/offshore groups. The youth section is Vestlandet's largest dinghy group, active in Optimist and ILCA 7, with beginner courses and race training. You can sail without owning a boat, including on Tuesdays in the Hjeltefjordtrimmen from May to September. In 2011 RAN was recognised by the Norwegian Sailing Federation as a child- and youth-friendly sailing club.
History
RAN Seilforening is a sailing club affiliated with the Norwegian Sailing Federation and the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports in Øygarden. The organisation comprises three sports groups for dinghies, one-design boats and cruising/offshore sailing, plus a race committee and a facilities committee for harbour, crane and venue rental. Through its dinghy section RAN grew into Vestlandet's largest dinghy group with more than 40 active dinghy sailors aged 8 to 18 in Optimist and Laser. Each spring there are beginner courses in Optimist dinghies with boat loan for the first sailing year; two Zoom8 boats were also acquired for training 13- to 15-year-olds. In 2011 the Norwegian Sailing Federation awarded RAN recognition as a child- and youth-friendly sailing club, linked to active youth work and recruitment. Besides racing on the Hjeltefjord, including Hjeltefjordtrimmen, the club offers team-building and crew training on modern cruising yachts. The annual meeting is the highest authority; between meetings the board runs day-to-day operations.
