Roskilde Sejlklub
Roskilde Sejlklub is one of Denmark's largest sailing clubs with around 600 members, founded in 1905. The club is situated at the southern end of Roskilde Fjord, with numerous bays offering anchorages and open stretches for regatta sailing in one of the country's finest waters. Facilities include a large clubhouse with showers, kitchen, workshop and meeting rooms, pontoons, floating bridges for the kayak section and berths for dinghies and keelboats. The active youth section sails Optimists, RS Quest and 420s; the sailing school uses five J/80s and one IF-Boat. Weekly Wednesday racing, match racing, the sailing school and kayak tours are complemented by regattas, cruises and club events throughout the season.
History
Roskilde Sejlklub was founded in 1905 and, with around 600 members, ranks among the largest sailing clubs in Denmark. The club lies at the southern end of Roskilde Fjord, one of the country's most beautiful sailing areas, with numerous bays providing shelter from all wind directions and wide stretches for regatta sailing. Many sailors began their careers here; the youth section and adult sailing school are particularly active. The youth fleet comprises 26 Optimists, four Laser dinghies, four Feva dinghies, two RS Quest and three 420s; practical training in the sailing school takes place in five J/80s or privately owned boats. A large group of members also sail their own vessels for racing and cruising in the scenic fjord surroundings. In 2003 the kayak department was established and now has around 130 to 140 active members, offering day and multi-day trips on the fjord and in Denmark and Sweden. The club hosted the Atlantic Challenge in 1990, 1998 and 2016 and will host the international event again in 2026. At the Match Race Centre Roskilde, Thursday racing is held in four J/80s, and together with Veddelev Sejlklub weekly Wednesday regattas are organised in spring and autumn. The clubhouse with kitchen, showers, workshop and meeting rooms is the hub of a varied club life with lectures, courses, barbecue evenings and social activities for sailors of all ages.
