Piteå Båtklubb
Piteå Båtklubb is a traditional boat and sailing club in Piteå on Sweden's Bay of Bothnia, founded in 1922. With around 850 members and about 500 registered boats, the club is among the region's most significant boat clubs and is affiliated with Svenska Båtunionen and Bottenvikens Båtförbund. The main facility is on the island of Svinöra in the Piteå archipelago and offers a clubhouse, kitchen, sauna, kiosk, playground and pontoons with electricity and fresh water; Optimists, Lasers and canoes are available for loan. An extensive annual programme, active youth work with sea-sports camps and dinghy sailing, and the vision of becoming the most family-friendly facility on the Bay of Bothnia shape club life.
History
Piteå Båtklubb was founded in 1922 and is an interest organisation for recreational boat owners in the Piteå area. Today the club has around 850 members and about 500 registered boats, making it the largest boat club in Bottenvikens Båtförbund. The association is affiliated with Svenska Båtunionen; membership includes among other things the members' magazine Båtliv. The main facility on the island of Svinöra in the Piteå archipelago is open to the public and is continuously maintained and improved with the aim of becoming the most family-friendly facility on the Bay of Bothnia. The club promotes good seamanship and safety, works to protect Piteå's unique archipelago environment and acts as a referral body and link between authorities and boat owners. PBK is also a member of Piteå municipality's Skärgårdsråd and strives for sustainable development of boat sport with regard to people, environment and society.
