PŠU "Peliška Jedra"
Pomorsko-športska udruga „Peliška Jedra“ is the maritime sports association of Orebić on the Croatian Adriatic coast and operates its own small sports marina. The facility provides residents with safe berths for boats as well as space for maintenance, launching and hauling out. With sailing, fishing and diving sections, the association organises many sporting events each year, including the Pelješka cruiser regatta, the diving event „Pogled u plavo“ and Offshore Challenge Orebić. The sailing section runs sailing regattas; the diving section has operated independently since 2015 and offers courses and environmental actions. Founded in 1979, the association remains a firm anchor of sporting life in Orebić.
History
In Orebić on 29 April 1979 the Pomorsko-športsko društvo „Peliška jedra“ was founded and later renamed Pomorsko-športska udruga „Peliška jedra“. The initiative came from the brothers Radivoj and Branko Pešut and a group of Orebić residents. The association aimed at planned, organised development of water sports through programmes for top sporting results. In sailing, Branko Pešut, Darko Prižmić and Zdravko Šabić among others won numerous awards and secured the association a high standing among sailors. The first president was Lujo Kolin; he was succeeded by Svetko Čović, who led the association for 24 years and received the title of honorary president. Zdravko Šabić was elected president at the assembly on 28 February 2010 and continued the tradition of active board work. With members’ help the association built a small marina that still provides Orebić residents with safe berths and space for maintenance and repairs. Today the work covers sailing, fishing and diving sections; the diving section has been independent since 2015. Notable events include the Pelješka cruiser regatta held since 2017 (about 60 nautical miles around Korčula) and Offshore Challenge Orebić, first held in 2019.
