Potsdamer Seglerverein e.V.
Potsdamer Seglerverein e.V. is a recognized non-profit sailing club in Potsdam, situated on club premises opposite the Hermannswerder peninsula on Lake Schwielowsee. The club offers two boat halls, a youth hall, a clubhouse, slipway and pontoon facilities, as well as beach and parking areas for around 200 members of all ages. Racing and cruising are both part of the programme; the club's own events include the Children's and Youth Regatta, the long-established Saubucht Race and a beginners' regatta. The active youth section trains every Tuesday and Friday in classes such as Optimist, Cadet, 420er, Laser, Ixylon and Pirat – members do not need their own boat. Beginners aged eight and over can learn to sail through taster sessions or youth training; guest berths are welcome during the season, and the club looks back on a history dating to the 1950s.
History
Potsdamer Seglerverein e.V. promotes sailing in all its forms as a recognized non-profit association – from racing to cruising, for young and old alike. The club's history reaches back at least to the 1950s; the photo gallery documents club life from 1953 onwards, and the membership page recalls regatta achievements from 1957. The club grounds lie opposite Hermannswerder on Lake Schwielowsee and comprise two boat halls, a youth hall, a clubhouse, slipway and pontoon facilities, plus beach and parking areas. Over the decades the PSV has become an important organiser in the Brandenburg sailing scene: it regularly hosts the Children's and Youth Regatta – the 57th edition took place in 2026 – the Saubucht Race, held for more than 30 years, and a beginners' regatta. The club competes at major regattas regionally and beyond and hosted events such as the 2021 International German Ixylon Championship in the Potsdam area. Youth development with part-time coaches, weekly training and regatta participation, together with cruising events such as season opening, Whitsun trips and season closing, shape club life to this day.
