Śląski Yacht Club
Śląski Yacht Club (SYC) is the official sailing club at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice and one of the traditional sailing clubs in Upper Silesia. The club runs a sailing station (stanica) on Lake Dzierżno Duże in Rzeczyce with moorings and club facilities, and offers sailing and powerboat courses, SRC training, and sea and internship cruises. In addition to regular training, the club organises regattas such as the Dzierżno CUP in the Optimist and ILCA classes and supports youth and charity projects. Club publications document milestones including sea voyages from 1957 to 1982, the Caribbean expedition of 1980 and the Atlantic voyage of 1983, as well as anniversaries up to the club’s 60th anniversary.
History
Śląski Yacht Club (SYC) looks back on a long sailing tradition in Upper Silesia. Club publications document sea voyages under the title “SYC na morzu” for the period 1957 to 1982, evidencing early offshore activity. Further publications commemorate the Caribbean expedition “Karaiby '80” and the Atlantic voyage “Atlantyk '83”, regarded as outstanding milestones in the club’s history. Anniversary publications mark the 25th, 40th, 50th and 60th anniversaries of SYC. Today the club is based at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, maintains a sailing station at Dzierżno Duże in Rzeczyce, and combines training, racing and social engagement.
