SWC - Segel- und Wassersport Club

The Sailing and Water Sports Club (Siemens Water Sports Club) in Zug offers Siemens employees, retired Siemens employees and external members access to sailing on Lake Zug. Through targeted sponsorship and partnerships with the Yacht Club Zug, the club provides access to a dinghy pool with nearly 10 dinghies as well as stand-up paddle boards. The programme is aimed at sailors of all experience levels – from beginners with courses and sailing opportunities to experienced sailors with regattas and offshore certificate theory courses.

History

The Sailing and Water Sports Club (SWC) was founded in June 2016 with a founding assembly. From the outset, the focus was on sailing, while other water sports such as stand-up paddling, rowing and canoeing were not excluded. The beautiful lakes in the region surrounded by mountains invite water sports activities, but long waiting lists for berths and boat storage make getting started difficult. Through targeted sponsorship, the SWC maintains partnerships that provide access to dinghies via the dinghy pool, yachts and other offerings. In an initial phase, the so-called dinghy pool was set up in cooperation with the Yacht Club Zug. Nearly 10 dinghies are now available for general use. Uniquely, apart from the regular YCZ membership fee, no additional charges apply for using the dinghies. The Yacht Club Zug dinghy pool includes Laser Bahia boats such as "Desigo" (launch September 2016), "Sinteso" and "Climatix" (harbour day and launch June 2017) as well as "Moneta". The club regularly organises events such as the dinghy meet-up every Wednesday during the season, spring boat launch, dinghy cruising trips to Böschenroth, the Bahia Cup and smaller regattas and training sessions. SWC members and Siemens employees may use the dinghy pool free of charge together with an authorised YCZ club member as responsible skipper. The SWC also maintains SUP boards for free use by SWC members. For advanced sailors, the club offers offshore certificate theory courses and mileage-building programmes on the open sea. Over the years, the club developed from the 2016 founding assembly through boat launches and dinghy pool events in 2017–2019 to an established water sports club with an annual programme, regular meet-ups and an active community at Zug harbour and in the Yacht Club Zug clubhouse.
