Segler-Verein Niendorf Ostsee e.V.

Segler-Verein Niendorf Ostsee e.V. (SVNO) is a long-established sailing club in Timmendorfer Strand on the Lübeck Bay. Since its founding in 1974 and the construction of its own club harbour in 1994, the club offers around 70 berths, pontoons, a clubhouse with restaurant and a dinghy station. The active youth section trains on Saturdays with Optimists, ILCA 4, Laser Pico and Laser Vago; adult members sail among others Nordic Folkboats and take part in the weekly Wednesday regatta. The club programme includes the club regatta with pier festival, the youth Makrelen regatta, regular working parties and major events such as the IDM Nordic Folkboats. As a lively small harbour with a strong community, SVNO combines leisure sailing, regatta sport and social life on the Baltic Sea.

History

It all began on 11 April 1974. As early as the beginning of the 1970s, harbour master Eddi Stop considered bringing together all water sports enthusiasts of Niendorf harbour in one community. 76 members joined the club "Freunde des Niendorfer Fischereihafens" on the founding evening. The sailing club received e.V. status through entry in the register of associations at the Bad Schwartau district court on 5 September 1974. The club did not yet have its own harbour, so from the outset the goal was formulated to create a sports boat harbour for members. On 7 May 1977 the new name "Yachtclub Niendorfer Fischereihafen e.V." (YCNF) was adopted. In May 1993 the club was renamed "Segler-Verein Niendorf/Ostsee e.V." (SVNO) because berths in the fishing harbour were no longer available. The new harbour was built in record time and on 26 May 1994 the yacht "Krümel" was the first boat to enter SVNO harbour. Rudolf Tadge received the Golden Honorary Pin of SVNO with diamonds and the title of commodore for his work on planning and construction. The official opening took place on 12 June 1994. Clubhouse construction began on 25 March 1996 and was completed by the end of the year; the café and restaurant was named "Altes Zollhaus". In July 1997 the clubhouse was officially inaugurated. In 2024 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary.
