Segelvereinigung Sinstorf e.V.

Segelvereinigung Sinstorf e.V. is a youth-focused sailing club on Neuländer Baggersee in the south of Hamburg. Since its founding in 1981 the emphasis has been on training children and juniors; more than half of the roughly 100 members are young sailors. At the Neuländer See watersports centre the club offers a clubhouse, boat hall, jetties and a fleet of Optimists, RS Feva, RS500, ILCA, VB dinghies and other boats. Volunteer coaches provide weekly training, taster courses, holiday-pass actions and camps, plus an evening group for adults with prior experience. The German Sailing Federation recognised the club's exemplary training in 2017, 2019 and 2021.

History

The club was founded in 1981 at Gymnasium Sinstorf, today's Immanuel-Kant-Gymnasium, as Segelverein Gymnasium Sinstorf. The aim was to offer pupils, parents and teachers an affordable way to learn sailing and practise it together. Since 1993 the club has been named Segelvereinigung Sinstorf e.V. Optimist training first took place at Außenmühle in Harburg, dinghy training on the Alster; in winter boats were stored in members' gardens or garages. In 2001 two members first sailed on Neuländer See. Until the Neuländer See watersports centre opened in 2013, club events were already held at the lake; since then the club has had its home there. The fleet and training offer have grown continuously. Since 2016 summer taster weeks for school pupils have been offered. In 2017, 2019 and 2021 SVGS received German Sailing Federation awards for exemplary training. In 2023 membership first exceeded 100. Today the focus remains junior training on Neuländer Baggersee; the club is a member of Hamburger Sportbund and the German Sailing Federation.
