Segler-Vereinigung Thalwil
Segler-Vereinigung Thalwil (SVT) is a sailing club founded in 1936 on Lake Zurich and ranks among the longest-active and largest clubs in the region. The club facilities lie between Seebad Ludretikon and the Thalwil steamer pier and include a clubhouse, a large mooring field, dry storage for dinghies and harbour berths at Farbsteig. Besides junior courses on Optimist and 420, SVT offers boat pools with H-Boat, Onyx and J/70 as well as weekly SunsetRace training regattas. Active, junior and passive members find a varied programme of cruising, racing and club events.
History
Segler-Vereinigung Thalwil was founded on 15 December 1936 by ten sailors from Thalwil and surroundings in Paul Utzinger's flat, becoming the fourth sailing club on Lake Zurich. At the first AGM on 8 March 1936 in Horgen, 16 founding members were recorded; Willy Utzinger became president. In 1951 the junior section and Clubfloss Nord, the club's first structure, were created. From 1962 the dry storage jetty was built and from 1967 the clubhouse on piles, inaugurated on 28 June 1969. In 1980 SVT took a 24 percent stake in Bootshafen Farbsteig AG; in 1981 the harbour opened with 132 berths, of which SVT held 17. For the 50th anniversary in 1986 the club had 396 members and was the largest sailing club on Lake Zurich. In 1996 the racing pool with boat Joker was founded; in 1997 the first website followed. In 2005 a pool H-Boat was added and in 2006 one of the first webcams on Lake Zurich. In 2012 Yannick Brauchli became the first SVT member at the Olympic Games in London in the 470. After extension works the clubhouse reopened on 22 June 2013. In 2015 an SVT women's team won the Zürichsee-Cup for the first time. Today the association has over 300 members and runs boat pools plus an extensive racing and junior programme.
