History

Sportverein Weyregg am Attersee has been a fixed part of the sports culture of the Salzkammergut and beyond since 1962. With more than 700 members in football, sailing, tennis and skiing, SVW athletes rank among Austria's most successful and compete for top international places. Sailing has a long tradition in Weyregg and has produced national and international sailing stars for more than 45 years. The yacht sport section (SVW-YS) is located in Alexenau on the eastern shore of the Attersee – Austria's largest lake at nearly 47 km² – and is regarded as one of the country's finest yacht clubs with excellent wind conditions, including the steady 'Rosenwind'. The spacious premises with a large clubhouse, pontoons, crane, slipway and dinghy storage form the centre of active regatta and training operations. Youth work is a priority: the sailing section's youth week with up to 40 children aged 11 to 15 is an annual highlight, along with Easter training, participation in Austrian and international championships in classes such as Optimist, Zoom8, Pirat and Surprise, and successes such as Austrian national championship titles. The club regularly hosts major regattas – including Austrian national championships, international Zoom8 trophies, Sunbeam class championships and the Attersee Sailspeedmaster – and welcomes sailors from home and abroad. Members such as Simona Höllermann represent the club at prestigious events like the SSL Gold Cup. The spring work assignment, section meetings and lively club life with forest festival and events shape the community. Ernst Nöhmer has led the overall club as president since June 2019; the sailing section is run by dedicated officials such as Rainer Schmitzberger as section leader and race officer. Today SVW-YS offers ideal conditions for dream sailing hours on the Attersee – from youth development in Optimist, Laser and other classes to ambitious regatta sailing in Pirat, Surprise, H-Boot and many other boat classes.
