Sundsvalls Segelsällskap
Sundsvalls Segelsällskap (SUSS) is a non-profit sports club in Sundsvall, Sweden, that has promoted sailing and boating life since 1877. The club harbour Vindhem lies on the southern tip of the island of Alnön and includes harbour facilities, buildings and a camping area. Annual regattas such as Alnön Runt, sailing schools and training for children and adults take place there. The youth section offers Optimist dinghies for the sailing school; Vindhem is also a popular outing destination with beach, cliffs and Restaurant Vindhem in one of the club buildings.
History
Sundsvalls Segelsällskap was founded in 1877 as a non-profit sports association and, according to its motto “På havet sen 1877”, has been active on the water ever since. The club is open to everyone who enjoys boating and wants to take part in its activities. Since 1910 the sailing club has owned and managed the harbour as well as buildings and camping at Vindhem on Alnön through Sundsvalls Segelsällskaps Byggnadsförening, an economic association. At Vindhem on the southern tip of Alnön the club regularly organises racing, sailing schools and training for young and adult sailors. Vindhem became a popular outing destination with beach and cliffs; in one of the buildings the popular Restaurang Vindhem serves food in the summer months. To this day harbour operations, youth sailing school and regattas such as Alnön Runt form the core programme of this traditional club.
