Seglergemeinschaft der Universität Bielefeld e.V.
Seglergemeinschaft Universität Bielefeld e.V. (SUB) is the sailing community at Bielefeld University and is open to anyone interested. The registered association has existed since 1979 and jointly maintains club boats for sailing on coastal and inland waters. At its heart is the sailing yacht SUBsonic (Varianta), owned by the club since 2018 and sailed throughout the season along the Baltic coast from Flensburg to Rügen as well as in the Danish South Sea and around Bornholm; there is also a trailerable motorboat for SBF-See training. SUB offers annual courses for the coastal skipper licence (SBF-See), the Sport Coastal Yachtmaster (SKS) and the radio certificates SRC and UBI, and meets monthly for a regulars' table at the Pappelkrug in Bielefeld.
History
Seglergemeinschaft Universität Bielefeld e.V. (SUB) has existed as a registered association since 1979 and sees itself as a community of interest for sailors at Bielefeld University and anyone who wishes to join. Members jointly maintain and use club boats for sailing on coastal and inland waters. Training for recreational skippers is strongly promoted: each year courses are offered for the Sportbootführerschein (SBF), the Sportküstenschifferschein (SKS) and the radio certificates SRC and UBI, with interactive teaching, close supervision and affordable fees for students. Since 2018 the club has owned the sailing yacht SUBsonic, a Varianta with room for six people. The yacht is the heart of the club and is sailed throughout the season, including along the Baltic coast from Flensburg to Rügen, in the Danish South Sea or around Bornholm. The home port of the club sailing boat is Marina Minde on the Flensburg Fjord. Also in 2018 the trailerable motorboat (Ørnvig 441 CLX, 40 hp), used mainly for SBF-See training, was named Peter Panik in memory of the earlier club boats Peter Panik I to V. The boats are maintained by the members themselves. Informal get-togethers take place as a monthly regulars' table at the Pappelkrug in Großdornberg.
