Stord Seilforening
Stord Seilforening is a Norwegian sailing club on the island of Stord in Vestland, based in the harbour area of Leirvik. The club has premises in Thiisafabrikken and a pier at Skottabergkaien with almost 30 berths plus a raft with storage at the outer end of the jetty. It offers sailing courses, equipment and berth rental for members, and regular training for keelboats, dinghies and windsurfing boards. Children, youths and adults enjoy a social sailing environment with Tuesday regattas from May to October and an active junior dinghy group. Founded in 1973 and returning to its historic Leirvik base in 2021, the club is a well-established meeting point for the Sunnhordland sailing community.
History
Stord Seilforening was founded in 1973 and at that time had its base in the boat harbour at Leirvik. In 2021 the club moved back to the same historic location where it all began 48 years earlier: the boat harbour facilities in Leirvik. In 2023 the association obtained club premises in Thiisafabrikken and a pier at Skottabergkaien with space for almost 30 boats; at the outer end of the pier there is a raft with storage. The site is next to the Redningsselskapet rescue society premises. Today the club rents 22 berths to members, prioritises sailing boats and offers equipment hire as well as sailing courses for children, youths and adults. The Tuesday regattas (Tirsdagsregattaen) have long formed the sporting core of keelboat training, complemented by dinghy and board groups and cruising in the Sunnhordland region.
